Well, it’s another Saturday, and tomorrow millions of people will go to their church to worship the Christian deity. You know, in many ways, God is a rather pitiful figure, requiring millions of his own creation to sing his praises and worship him. Many Christians try to justify this by comparing God’s relationship to mankind as a parent’s relationship to their offspring (just as a parent expects respect and obedience from their children, God also expects respect and obedience from us).... 3 comments

I was reading Barbara Walker's wonderful book Man Made God: A Collection of Essays and it happened to mention the tempting of Eve in the Garden of Eden. Today, most Christians consider the snake that tempted Eve to be Satan/Devil/Lucifer who, as Paradise Lost would have it, came back from hell to corrupt God's greatest creation and put mankind onto the path of sin. I just read "Is Christianity Good for the World?", which is about a debate between Hitchens and Wilson. I've read a couple of books by Hitchens but I'd never heard of Wilson before (understandable since I avoid dyed-in-the-wool Christians like the plague). Anyways, throughout the debate one of the things Wilson was trying to nail Hitchens on was atheist morality. How many of you out there, are "un-born" again? I became "un-born again" last year, finally. I spent most of my adult 63 years, being "born again". How many years did you spend being "un-born again"? Wow! Amazing, isn't it? Along comes this "nice" person in the street and hands you a "tract". You know what that is, don't you? It's usually a 1,2, or 3 page tiny paper booklet that has a brief explanation on why "you should be saved" and a few "bible verses" to go along with it. Oh sure, I knew about... One comment

Going for the Sunday papers this morning ,I find someone has "borrowed" yet another Darwin badge from the back of my jeep ! So whilst doing the now endlessly repetitive task of checking glove box , door pockets etc to find another one - Ahh that is what they don't tell you - the volume discounts are for replacments ! Love really doesn't turn to hate - it was just something I was feeling at the time but I have recovered from the sadness. We get over things, we have to accept things as they are. I just have to look past his faults when he does something that bothers me. It's going to happen sometimes. It isn't the end of the world, and now I even find that things haven't changed so much after all. Sometimes we just have to accept, let things go, open up and love again. The contents of this blog entry have been deleted - information is too personal about my father. He and I had a tough time; there can be no question about that. Yet, as I look at him as he is now, I don't see how hanging onto all the injustices from childhood is going to make anything better. My father wasn't a perfect dad - he sure as hell didn't do everything right and yet I will never find it in me to hate him. He is old now, in need of company and despite all the tensions a part of my heart bleeds for him. In the end, love always prevails. 2 comments
